Tilt Motor Burned Out - '89 Merc 50HP

My tilt motor burned out last weekend and I took it to a shop for repair. They tell me that it's made by Eaton and they don't make those any longer, but there's another brand, Arco, that will work. HOWEVER, the part alone is $600!!! Does anyone know of a shop that could rebuild it or know of somewhere I could look for a used one? I just can't stomach spending this much dough on a stinking tilt motor!

Do you know exactly what burned out? Could be just the electric motor which can be repaired for under a 100 bucks by any electric motor shop. I had a motor like that and that's what happened to mine.

Could be switch, motor relays or bad connection.

Did you bypass the relays and wire direct to the motor to test it?

If it is the motor and Valv can't help you, you may just need new brushs and a alternator or auto electric shop should be able to help you out.
