weekend trip numbers lake

Ok I'm thinking about making one last weekend trip this weekend. I've been skunked all year. I need help picking a numbers lake. I haven't been to the big V all year, but that lake never fails to frustrate me. Shamineau is another possiblity, never fished it before though. Baby is another on I'd like to try. I just need to get the monkey off my back before I switch gears to the duck - pheasant hunting.

I'd have to agree with Brian. I'd go to Alexander before Shamineau. My brother and I spent a weekend up there this summer and fished both lakes. Didn't even see a muskie on Shamineau, but did hook into a monster on Alexander. There's more structure and islands on Alexander. Not too much on Shamineau. Good luck.

Forest has been a bust for me all year. Only one 46"er from a bar on lake one. Tried fishing White Bear but I cant stand fishing these weed choked lakes. mad.gif Headed to Mantrap this Fri- Sun. Will probably hit Elk lake also. Will report on Mon.

I should have listened to you guys. I ended up on Vermillion with only one follow to my credit. I think for the first time in my muskie fishing career I had to put away the muskie gear for a while as the walleye fishing was so incredible. With a few smallies as well.

superfish:

I was on Vermilion both days, too. East Bay spots. Had a couple follows on Saturday and one on Sunday. I think there are a lot more fish following than we know about on V, because the water clarity is so low. Some of those lagging follows you'd see in other lakes are invisible.

Did troll some shoreline Sunday with a big Shad Rap and boated a little 32 inch musky and a 32 inch pike. The pike was a porker, and outweighed the musky by a good couple of pounds.

The Sunday follow was from a fish about 45 inches. I'm not a hoary musky veteran, but I got so many good looks at the fish that I'm sure of the estimate. It hung around for five minutes, taking half-hearted swipes at everything I threw at it, but never really went after things. I hit the spot a few hours later on the way back, but didn't see the fish again.

Had a couple blow up on a big spinnerbait bulged under the calm surface Sunday in the evening, but no actual takers.
