randallt
I am considering buying a Lund Pro V or a Lund Fisherman this fall/winter. My main purpose for the boat is fishing, but I also want to be able to take the family out cruising, skiing and tubing etc. Probably 18', maybe 19'. I am curious what opinions are out there? I will be buying used, so chances are I will buy whichever one I find the best deal on, but was looking to see what everyone in the know had to say. Thanks,Randy
randallt
So is there a Crestliner or Alumicraft model that I should consider? Another Lund model that someone thinks fits the dual role?
HARPOON-OR-BUST
WELL IN MY OPINION THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN A FISHERMAN AND A PRO-V. THE BEST THING WOULD BE TO GO ON THE LUND HSOforum AND LOOK AT THE FEATURES. I HAVE A PRO-V, THE WAY IT IS SET UP IT WOULD NOT MAKE A GOOD DUEL PURPOSE BOAT. I AM NOT SAYING IT CAN'T BE USED FOR BOTH BUT IT ISN'T MADE FOR HAULING PEOPLE AROUND DOING WATER ACTIVITES. AS A FISHING BOAT I WOULD SAY THAT IT IS ONE OF THE MOST FISHABLE BOATS ON THE MARKET IF NOT THE BEST. THEY ARE ALSO MORE EXPENSIVE SO I WOULD TRY TO WEIGH THE TIMES ITS GOING TO BE USED FOR FISHING COMPARED TO WATER ACTIVITES. GOOD LUCK
MercMan
I bought a 17 foot Lund Pro Sport brand new in 2002. I had the same goals as you....mainly for fishing, but a family boat also. The reason I chose the Pro Sport is that I wanted over 100 horses (got 115 Merc) and the option package included front bow seat cushions for the wife that I could remove for fishing, stereo, and bimini top. I love the boat! The Pro Sport and Fisherman models are deeper than the Pro V, which I also wanted due to the fact that I have little kids. The higher the gunwales the better for kids. Alumicraft & Crestliner also make awesome boats, so unless you're dedicated to one brand be sure to check them all out if you buy used. I bought mine at the Mpls boat show in January. The best time to buy. I got a sweet deal. I bought new because I only wanted a black & silver Lund with a 115 Merc. Hard to find used.

randallt
Mercman-sounds like I need to look at the ProSport, I like the idea of front bow cushions. I know the wife and kids would like that also. Doug-I think a 2005 ProV is going to be a bit steep in $$$ for me, but if you want to shoot me some pictures and a price I will take a look. I am looking at spending less than $20K - that's why I am looking used. [email protected]
randallt
Doug-just noticed you are from Cook. I am going to be up at Vermillion Dam Lodge in October (6-10) chasing some Muskies. Shoot me some info and I could possibly take a look when I am up that way.It will be my first time on Vermillion. Any tips for fishing it that time of year? Dano_the_jigasaurus
definitely look at the ProSport, I have a Pro-V and it can handle tubing wakeboard but it doesn't excel at it....There is not room for seating other than the floor and not comfortable for cruising around with more than 3people. For fishing though nothing beats it.
dan holt
HANDS DOWN. THE FISHERMAN IS A BETTER BOAT FOR FAMILYS,AS I HAVE A 20 FT WITH A 2OO HORSE SUZI AND IT HAS NO PROBLEMS DOING ANYTHING. I DO FISH ALOT OF WALLEYE AND MUSKIE TOURNAMENTS AS WELL. AND IT FISHES JUST FINE. YOU GIVE UP A LONGER PLATFORM IN THE FRONT OF A FISHERMAN, BUT IF YOU HAVE SMALL KIDS. FREEBOARD IS IMPORTANT, AND THE PRO-V DOESN'T COME CLOSE TO THE FISHERMAN.
