where did they go

I have been fishing senkos all year on a small lake in the suburbs. I have caught fish every outing except for the last few outings. I have been trying other baits like scum frogs, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits with not much luck. I have always found alot of fish up close to shore but now they are gone. I have also noticed that there has been alot of weed growth happening in the last few weeks. Are the fish moving out to deeper water because of weed growth or temperature? Or do the fish just tend to move to deeper water in the fall? Or are the fish not moving and its just me?

Some will stay shallow, some will be deep. If the lake you fish gets a lot of pressure a lot of times that will force them to go deep even more. EX: Last week up north I fished docks all day and didn't have a problem with getting quality fish. This week on a metro lake I can barely catch anything over 12" off docks and have gotten better fish deep. It could just be the different make-ups of the lake that make the fish do what they do, But I believe part of it has to do with pressure.

If your having trouble catching them shallow I would try fishing deeper. A good search tool is the carolina rig. And once you find a school, you can switch to a drop-shot, or a light carolina rig such as a clamp on bullet weight about 18" above your lure acting as a finesse carolina rig.

It is tougher out there now, but stick with it! smile.gif

One other thing I have noticed. The feeding window has gotten smaller. It may be due to pressure, fishing or boating, I don`t know. If your on them you better get them in the morning or evening. Hope for a good boat draw! Flip
