Commanche Jim
This looks like a real possibility. The Yankee's Brian Cashman said he will not pick up Griffey off waivers.http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-ssep12.html
buzzsaw
I thought this quote was interesting. "By all indications, the White Sox still might be in the market for Ken Griffey Jr. to help jump-start their stagnant offense ". I'm guessing that needs to change come October or it's bye bye choke city Chi-sox. I also noticed Buehrle had a great outing against Boston the other night... like 12 hits and 6 or 7 earned runs... yeowch!
genegodawa
Buzz, I checked today's Sox lineup and they didn't have Posednik or Crede in there so they really need a jump start....I think there was only one guy over .275 (Rowand) with most in the .250 - .270 range. Rather weak hitting lineup for a first place team I think. Is it either clutch hitting combined with timely pitching or smoke and mirrors (the schedule has been in their favor)?I don't know Griffey's avg., but I just can't see paying him so much money especially since he is more injury prone these days. (Look at Garciaparra on the Flubs). Not many players really worth their contracts except maybe Pujols who of course is an MVP type guy. If baseball doesn't watch it, they'll be going thru an NHL-type restructuring some day. Thank God there aren't too many T.O. type guys in baseball. Now there's a sport with some overpaid cry babies.Gettin' down from the soapbox for awhile now,
Commanche Jim
Rowand .287 10 HR 51 RBIPodsednik .282 0 19Iguchi .279 11 46Konerko .271 30 77Pierzynski .270 17 46Everett .265 17 67Dye .265 22 61Uribe .248 9 52Crede .243 16 48That's not completely stagnant. Other than Podsednik, everone has got some pop in their bat and could go deep at any time.
genegodawa
I don't know Jim, "at any time" kinda reminds me of that blind squirrel finding an acorn analogy. And those averages sure don't conjure up no Bronx Bombers analogy. Give you credit for yesterday though as your stagnant lineup had a lead before the washout-doesn't mean they would have held it, but we'll never know. Commanche Jim
Well, at any time has been the case most of the year. Iguchi's hit a couple game winners, AJ hit that walk off against the Dodgers, they tagged Schilling for 3 homers in the 9th inning over the weekend.......... And if I'm not mistaken, we lead the American League with 8 players with double digit home runs.........so, yes, just about anyone in the lineup is very capable of going deep at any time. genegodawa
You are right Jim. Instead of blind squirrel it's more like feast or famine. I didn't realize the ChiSox are 4th in the AL in HR's. But like I thought, very low (12th) in BA.Will be an interesting series against the Twins. Both have good team pitching stats and both have "stagnant" offenses.Maybe I'll have the PIP going tonight with the sound (Harrelson) turned off of course. I'd venture a ride to your new place but it ain't worth the drive to listen to him-YET.
IFallsRon
It's a good thought. Everyone would rather see Griffey go AL but GMs are a lot smarter and "tighter" about rent-a-player then when the Twins picked up Baylor and days like that. Sure, "we'd like to give a veteran a chance to get to the playoffs," but I'm pretty sure that those days are over. You'd be more likely to see a stiff like the Twins J. Jones go somewhere for prospects.
