He took it to Big Lake and they replaced the entire powerhead for free. 0 bwana_d Posted February 13, 2004 Share Posted February 13, 2004 Maybe I am a little harder on gear then the average and a little more forgiving because of that.I have had a 2h Jiffy lighting series for 4 seasons. I went with the 2 horse for less weight - very glad I did. I can easily say I am into the thousands of holes with it. My auger before this one was MagIII - I wore that one out. I drill spear holes that require my holes to overlap so I can not use a 2 bladed type auger. Because I overlap my hole they are usually moving a lot of slush. It takes a lot of torque and puts a lot of extra strain on the auger. On a typical day I drill one spear hole(12 auger holes) and about 20 - 40 holes for perch in walleye. This is almost every weekend and about 10 days straight over xmas. I broke a weld on the teflon coated plate the seconde year, Jiffy replaced it for free. The next year I had a clutch spring break. I was actaully able to take the head apart, bend what was left of the spring and get it operational so I could use it the next day. I now cary a couple extra springs. I have also had the same problem you described, I jury riged a fix on the ice to make it usable and then tracked down the rather cheap and disappointing parts to fix it. I made sure the wire that moves was a loose fit and did not pull to hard when it bottomed out. It would be nice if they redesigned that part, but I like it better then a cable.Last year I was drilling holes on LOW that required 2 extensions and sometimes did not make it all the way through. If I stopped my auger all the slush from the warm ice in the hole would set up almost like ice. It survied that trip and has given me no problems this year. But, I keep some key spare parts on hand.I know that the carbs on the 3 horse are an issue, the jiffy repair person by where I live says to just bring it in as soon as you have a problem and he can get an adjustable carb replacement. Evidently the original carbs that are put on the techs are not ajustable for pollution control reasons.I would buy another Jiffy at this point, I am actually hoping to buy one cheap from some who is disappointed.Good Luck Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Fixed and replaced all the gears AND changed the pitch of auger blades...all for FREE. Answered all my questions. 40 minutes in & out. They just found a lifelong customer!!!Thanks for the replys! Thought i was in for a costly repair but had the pin replaced and ththey cleaned it up made some what i think where tunning adjustments and charged me nothing. I went into Strikemaster hoping to buy new gears, and not only did they GIVE them to me, they installed them at no charge also. They have me as a customer for life.
