Cliff Wagenbach
As stated both units are good units. I have used both. I much prefer the MarCum! Much easier to see on sunny days and lots more power! Battery usage is also about the same. Cliff
Cliff Wagenbach
FisherEd,I don't even use the arm!Just drop the transducer down the hole and start fishing!Unless you are in very shallow water you do not need to be centered in the hole anyway and the transducer is self leveling.Cliff
LocalGuide
I think for the summer time you can't beat a Vexilar Fl-18. With the bottom lock feature, it seems to be the best flasher out there. With the Vex you have no problem in direct sunlight, at least I don't have a problem. I love using my vex on my MinnKota unit up front, I think its the cats meow! We also have a Marcum on the dash, its just one thing I cant get used to. I like my zoom to much on the vex that when I go to this I have to concentrate to much. I dont like using the zoom b/c with the depth going up and down so much it seems like wasted space. Another downfall for me is the power the unit has. It picks up everything in the water, it hard to tell if its a fish/weed/or just debris. With the color on the unit being so close to one another, on a quick glance you cant tell much apart. Now ice fishing, well thats a whole new story! I'll keep it short and say I would rather use the marcum in the winter than in the summer any day! I think marcum has something going for winter fishing, summer fishing they have a ways to go yet!
