Shimano Crucial 6'8"MXF and 6'6"MLF spinning rod feedback

gspman

Question

Anybody test these against their St. Croix Avid counterparts? It's pretty obvious Shimano has built their Crucial spinning rod line to directly compete with and duplicate the St. Croix Avid spinning rod models at a slightly lower price point. With the 6-8 mxf and the 6-6 mlf you can cover alot of different walleye presentations and I'm looking at purchasing the Avid's or the Crucials soon. I'm looking for performance comparisons only. Looks and warranty are secondary to performance for me. Thanks.

Hi gspman, I have had the 6.6 mlf Crucial for a couple of months now, and it has worked out just great! I also have the 7' med. rod. It is a great drop shot and riggin' rod. I would say that they compare equally to the Avid series rods.

I find myself using these rods almost exclusively. Great warranty also.

For most walleye presentations I would say you want the medium light fast tip and not the extra fast. If you do a lot of jigging the extra fast may be the way to go. For live bait rigging I would say a fast action is ideal.
