Musky Location

Recommended Posts

Do you guys and gals fish the same areas on given lakes now as you did the first few weeks of the season, or do the Musky move to different locations and habitat as the summer gets going? I have noticed on the lakes I have been fishing that not only have we been seeing fewer fish in our regular spots, but the Musky hunters are also a lot fewer in numbers.

As a general but not always 100 percent true rule, You start out fishing spawning areas back in bays, weedy often shallower areas. As you progress into the summer the fish often start their migration out to deeper weeds, Main Lake Reefs, Main Lake Points. So you are probably right, they are on the move in your Lake

Musky will tend to lay up in the shallows after spawn and regroup there composer and rest up for awhile (maybe smoke a cig) smirk.gif. Once they have completed this ritual most fish slowly move out to the deeper weeds or the reefs and other structure like Muskybrain stated. Although something to always remember when trying to locate active fish is the food source. If bluegills and crappies are the staple on a certain lake you bet they will be laying in the weeds. If Cisco and other deep water baitfish are the main course the will also be laying out in the middle of nowhere feeding on suspended snacks. They will simply follow the food source like lions do in Africa. And the food source is always on the move deeper as summer progresses. Another factor that I am learning to incorporate in locating fish since I moved to the Metro is pressure; if somebody kept driving across my ceiling you bet I would seek lower ground.
