Does anyone know how nascar figures out the payouts?

Why did the 2nd place guy get more than the 1st place guy?

Why did the 32nd guy get almost double what the 31st guy got?

Why did the 32nd place guy get more than the 3rd,5th,6th,7th(a little less), 9th,10th and 11th place guys?

Doesn't seem right to me.

There are lots of factors in the NASCAR pay outs, but the reason it varies so much is that the payouts are partly based on the points positions of the owners and the contingency sponsorship packages that the teams carry. For instance, say your are Kurt Busch the reigning champion and you finish 22nd. You will make more than Morgan Shepard if he finished 22nd because you'd be in a better position to win money and have more contingency sponsorships.

I don't know any more details than this, but that's what I understand happens with the payouts. In some respects, its a "rich get richer" scheme, but its the same system it always has been I think...
