Strange morning...

Was wondering if anybody else got out fishing this morning(monday). I was on the lake by about 5:45.. predicted winds was 5-10 from the SW... and that was about what it was like at that time.. about 6:20 the winds were about 15 mph SW, then out of the blue, chenged to 15mph out of the N.. waves were meeting in the middle of the lake. My barameter had no change at all... Winds then switched to the east... and by 8am back to the south at about 20 mph(whitecaps).

All in all for my trouble fighing the wind, only 2 bass.. and small at that.. maybe 1.5 lbs. Yet, picked up 7 walleye in areas I normally catch bass.. and they were all decent size 2-4 lbs.

Strange to say the least.

That is really wierd! I would have liked to see the waves coming together, that would be something

Ole,

Dietz may have a different answer, but this is what I think about using the smaller worms right now.

Yesterday I was in a tourney and some of the fish were still in the postspawn. I got a few early on a smaller 6inch worm that were just big enough for the legal limit of 12". I believe that If I would have been throwing a bigger worm such as a 10" one, I wouldn't have gotten as many bites(even though they were still small). With the tough conidtions many people were downsizing and fishing spinning rods. I through a bulky jig deep and around docks and only managed one 13" fish. It was very tough out there, only one limit was brough in and they won it with about 8 1/2lbs.

So with the postspawn and fishing deep right now I think its a must to be throwing small baits. Give it a week or two and they will be feeding more.

This lake was 1 1/2hour from the cities as well, so down here they may have already moved out of the postspawn and may be feeding heavy.

Ole-This time of the year I stick to smaller baits for the Stupid rig... 4" worms, maybe up to a 5" tube or brush hog style bait. Only time I throw 10" stuff is in the fall it seems. Give it a try... cant hurt!

Dan- Brass and Glass= A brass worm weight and a glass bead. Primarily a texas rig. Free flowing sinker(not pegged) HOwever this is where I differ from a normal brass and glass I put a bobber stop about 1/4 " up the line. I then put a very small glass bead in front of my sinker and then have the normal glass bead behind it in front of the lure. Glass beads when they com in contact with the sinker(when you shake it) clicks togeather. making noise. If you go to a gander mtn store or other big fishing outlet. Many times they have pre-packged Brass and Glass... Give it a look and a try!

Here is a couple of picts of what a normal brass and glass rig looks like. You just need to attach your fave plastic at this point. Many use 4" straight tail worms.. That is my lure of choice usually, however will sometimes use a senko type lure as well.
