Slyster
I was browsing previous posts on leaders vs. no leaders vs. braid vs. floro etc etc... and still have a few questions.... How would this combo work? I am tying on 3 foot leaders using Vanish 20# onto my Fireline 8#. I hope this combo is good... the Vanish is thicker than I though.. I will be using a uniknot. This is for cranks and spinnerbaits (on a very clear lake) using a small brass 15Lb clip between the floro and lure- I think this would allow for some stretch.. and hopefully 20# Vanish would be less visible in clear water AND be tough enough to protect from pike bite offs? Experiences? Hints? Tips?
Fisher Dave
Give it a try.. and try some other line combinations to boot.. even try the superline direct to the hook..Try the different variations.. and let us know what works best for you.
Slyster
Tx. I wonder.. would line would be tougher for pike to cut- 8Lb fireline or 20Lb Vanish?
markkstanley
Use it all the time although I prefer 17lb Vanish. Use a double Uni to tie the lines and apply a little Super glue to the knot. I use 6ft leaders and haven't been bit off yet. I also use the clip (no swivel) between the leader and the lure for crankbaits but tie direct for spinnerbaits. Muddog
I'm using a 2oz bottom bouncer with a 20" leader and a brite yellow spinner. If that 2oz sinker doesn't spook them I don't think the line will. As Buck Perry said; If the fish can see and hear your line comming thrugh the water, Good ! You have there attention. I've been trolling crankbaits with 14lb fireline for 2 full seasons now and have never had a cut off.
Slyster
It worked well! Caught 14 bass.. a few good sized... and a couple pike and not ONE problem with the lines or knots! And not bite offs... Had a rather large muskie follow my tube right to the boat and had a staring match with my lure. Thought he might really test my knots! Couldn't get him to bite though... he just sat there. Muddog
I have found that Fireline doesn't make a good leader for, lets say; Lindy rigs or things with spinners. It is to limp and can wrap up on its self to easily. You need something a little stiffer like Vanish, which works very well. + it is easy to see.
