Does anyone have any information or advice on where to go in Atikokan to pick up a couple of fishing licenses, bait, and possibly even lunch? It's my first time passing through (on the way to French Lake), but I've heard it's an interesting town to visit. Thanks in advance.

Rowshow,

Its been a couple years since I've been there, but there was a bait shop on the right just as you headed north off of 11 towards town. We used to get lisence's there. We have also gotten them at a Can-Op in Mine Centre about halfway between the Fort and Atikokan.

In Atikokan we stayed at the White Otter Inn, and always made a trip in town for pizza. Cant remember the exact name of the restaurant, but it was on the left hand side of the main street thru town. The pizza was pretty good, came in a large rectangle shape. I've only been there in winter, but if your driving in the evening be careful of moose, lots in the area.

Xplorer - Thanks for the info! We'll be heading through in the late morning on the 28th. But I'll be keeping my eyes open for any moose...I'd love to see a couple, as long as they're not bouncing off the bumper. Plan on launching the canoes around noon or shortly after and then making our way back towards Ely.

If you are going to use the launch on Nym make sure you don't leave anything of value visible in the car....Lots of broken glass in parking lot and stories of break ins. Sux things like this happen in such a beauty of an area. I am jealous of your trip, we talk of making that trek many times but don't do it.

We're launching from French Lake and then we'll head to Pickeral, Olifaunt, Russell, Kawnipi, Agnes and come out on Moose.

We've been talking of this trip for about 5 years now and finally scheduled it.

Anyone try any fishing up that way? I've never been north of Kawnipi. I'd love to find some big smallies!
