Early Season Lures

I was reading the posts from the opener weekend and was thinking to myself about the baits people were using.

I personally used a couple different bucktails and had some follows but no fish.

From reading people posts it seems to me that the most luck came with chartuse bucktails and gliders. Is this a safe asumption to make about early lures to use?

Any input on early season lures is appreciated.

I have never really gone with the "early season downsize" theory. I think that if the fish wants it, it won't matter what size the bait is, it's gonna go after it. Granted I don't have many Monster 10" plus lures in my arsenal, but I throw anything in my box no matter what the season. I tend to think that Lure speed and action have more to do with it all then size does. Just one fishermans opinion.
