I used to have one, didn't like it. Terrible accuracy. Got to the point where I never used it because I liked all my other guns better. Traded it off a couple years ago. At least it was inexpensive and cheap to shoot.

I am not a big fan either. Some will hold decent groups and some just flat out are junk in my opinion. I do not trust these guns at all. Not that I have ever had a major problem with them, just something that cheap can't be your best bet in the woods. If you are going to use it for plinking around, great. However, I personally would not use them on big game. Just my opinion though! Good luck!

kc - I too have an SKS (Chinese) and love it! I personally wouldn't consider using it for hunting but for cheap target shooting, I couldn't think of a better gun!

jlm - I agree with you - My buddy has one also and even with the same ammo as me, his groups are all over the place whereas mine are very consistent. I must be lucky I guess!

I think what kind of ammo and what make of the gun it is. Just tonight I shot 20 rounds with it. I never sight it in yet I was shooting a target for about 90 yards away. I was off about about 3 inches for the target it the to the right. I didnt for for patterns yet. I just shot at clay target. I love my SKS.

Well it's as good as any 30-30.

I find that the front post at 100yd will cover an entire 12" wide target.

I took a deer in Montana a few years back with an SKS. I could see the bullet throw up dirt on the other side of the Deer through the scope. When the sound of the 7.62X39 slug hitting meat and bone reached my ears I knew I didn't miss. I don't recall hearing a sound like that from any other round. Very memorable.
