Windproofing old canvas

92python

Question

The canvas on my Otter is about 8 yrs old and where it isn't patched you can see through the material. The wind goes right through the house. I am wondering if anyone has any products they have used that will windproof old canvas.

I have noticed that the new portables have a different coating on them. I tried a waterproofing spray earlier this year but it hasn't made much of a difference.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

A little breathability is nice to have but air blowing right on through isn't good.
You could try latex based water sealer.
You'd have to do this in the summer and give it plenty of time to dry. Even then the canvas would be a little tacky. This would attract dust but in the winter it wouldn't be so bad.

actualy, ST's idea works, I bought some white canvas for a portable at macs, and the first night out my sunflower heater wouldnt heat it, only 4x8 too, the wind came right threw. since I had it already made, I hauled it into the basement, set it up and painted it with watered down white latex paint. after it dried it was way more like REAL canvas to the touch and kept the air from blowing threw. wasnt sticky either. a little stiff was it. good luck.
