stripped gears?

Question

I was casting this weekend with my Team Daiwa baitcaster and have a tendency to turn and start reeling before it hits the water. on one cast I got this hellasish (sp) noise of grinding and clicking when I turned it over. for the rest of the day when I started to reel it would make clicking sounds like it was shifting gears?

Any iders or is it time for the graveyard?

I think I will take it to a repair shop, anyone know any good ones in the south metro?

Take of the side plate, opposite the reel handle and see if the gears are stripped, i believe the gear is called a Cog Wheel, i did the exact thing with my Abu, i sent in for a new part to a HSOforum, and it cost me 3 bucks, reel is good as new.

great!!

thanks I have no clue when it come to taking a baitcaster apart. the reel was $150 in 98 so that would be great if it lasted a couple more years.

Yes good point, when you take it apart, do it very orderly and lay everything out in a line in the order you took it off so you know where to put it back in, also don't go messing with things that arent broken except to clean them.
