old ice auger trouble shooting

RICKD

Question

I am an ice fishing novice!!
I recently came across an older eskimo ice auger....age/power unkown. I can get the motor to run but when I start drilling into the ice the auger quits turning. after running a few seconds in engage the auger again and it runs just a few seconds and then stops rotating...is there a clutch ajustment or what?

I'll go with the bad clutch, I own a old Eskimo and mine had similar problems . You could just take the lower clutch assembly apart . It's easily done and you just need to put new gear oil in after. My auger was broke where the centrifugal clutch met the gears (drilling in dirt ..Bad for them) .I now have a Strikemaster and everthing is ok.Metro
