2 stroke oil for OMC injectors

beer batter

Question

I bought a 94 Johnson 140 hp oil injected motor last fall. Oil reservoir was filled with red 2 stroke oil which I'm guessing is the Johnson (OMC) brand. I used to use the blue cheap 2 stroke oil (Fleet Farm sells it by the gallon) on my old Evinrude 90 hp where it was premixed in the tank without issue. My oil reservoir is getting down there so I'm going to have to refill it soon.

Do oil injectors require using the Johnson (OMC) brand? What are the differences (besides price and color) of the different 2 stroke oils to require use of one over another?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no engine expert but I've used I think three different brands, including the cheap stuff in the white jug with the blue writing without any issues at all in my oil injected Yamaha.

As long as the oil is TC-W3 2 cycle, it will work. You are not "required" to use OMC (Bombardier now) oils in that motor.

I switched all my injection oils to Amsoil full synthetic, especially in the OMC. Less smoke and a much better overall performance.
