1995 90 hp evinrude starting woes!

FOOTDOC

Question

I need some advice regarding my 1995 90 hp evinrude. For the past year or so, if you turned the key 10 times, it would just spin 9 times and finally engage and start the 10th time. So, last november, I took it to my mechanic and we lubed the bendix mechanism and this helped temporarily. We then replace the starter and the starting battery. So, my son comes home from college and takes the lund out and tells me it is still spinning?! I will call the mechanic tomorrow but would like any suggestions from you folks in the know. Thanks alot!

You need to see first hand if that if that starter driven gear is actually engaging into the flywheel when you hear the spinning sound, if it is this confirms that the starter bendix gear is bad, it has something like a little one way clutch assembly inside of it and when it goes bad on ya it's just slipping internally, it should be fairly easy to replace yourself and alot less expensive, either way you should check this out before you bring to the dealer that way you know what your paying for. hope this helps alittle.

I would take to dealer or mechanic that replaced motor and show them, it still not working. It should have a warranty.

In the meantime just a little WD 40 on bendix shaft should help.
