Tournament Fishing & wrong species fish

I am not a tournament fisherman but fish for fun quite a bit. It seems that no matter the species I am chasing I run into other species. My question is this. If you are fishing a fairly serious tournament ($$) and run into a big muskie, pike or carp (species that you are not targeting) do you take the time to play them out and attempt to land them if you know it may be a great time sink? For example if you are rigging for walleyes with light line and hook into a big muskie that you may play for 30+ minutes. Do you keep fighting the fish or do you say nice fish, cut the line and refocus on the walleyes?

Most of the guys I know cut the line and get back to making money. No time to play on tournament day. Besides playing a fish you don't need may spook all of your target fish.

i guess with me it dependson the amount of $$ involved.. if its a local league thats low-key id try to land the fish 4 pictures and stories for the guys.. if its a bigger tourney why mess with the unwanted fish?? theres $$ to win!
