Sometime's ya just have to "do it"

Recommended Posts

Maybe it’s Wednesday, or maybe it’s Monday.

Some of us might do it on Thursdays.

Perhaps you and your wife do it on Sundays.

Maybe you “go it alone” on Tuesdays, or do it with an old acquaintance on Saturday.

Whatever day it is, it is always a great day to do it.

And it’s “OK” to do it.

Alot of us do.

And some of us might even have a routine!

We’re talking about fishing.

My schedule dictates that I fish on the weekends, typically Saturday’s.

Some folks are lucky enough to enjoy the lakes fishing both days of the weekend. My wife would disown me.

Others work the “4-10” schedule, and they fish 2 ½ or 3 days a weekend.

Some can make it out after work during the week.

Me, usually only one day a week.

And it HAS to be at least ONE day a week, or I start to twitch.

We all have that frequency built into us. And maybe it even gets worse the more we fish. But it is there, no matter what your need is, you know what you have to do to get your “fix”.

I find myself feeling left out if I don’t make the weekly fishing outing.

I also feel like I am missing something.

The calendar holds dates, and to me, they mean fish phases.

Each ones holds its own uniqueness to the bite, and has its own special set of tactics to go along with it.

Missing one of these phases would almost be like missing your child’s first steps (ok, so maybe not quite that bad).

Maybe it’d be like missing the Vikings first Superbowl appearance in many years (ok, so probably another exaggeration…)

The point is, I’m missing out. I’m not enjoying every season of fishing to it’s full potential.

I can feel the withdrawal.

And to compound it, I come here. I hear the stories of guys on hot bites. I read the posts of couples on camping trips. I browse the forums scanning articles on the trophys caught the day before.

And I grow anxious.

My day is still 4 days away.

I was just fishing 3 days ago, but it just keeps getting worse.

I need to fish.

I want to fish.

I have to fish.

I am missing out.

I feel lucky. I can tell if I was on the water today, I would have found that school of hungry Walleyes.

If I went to the local hole, I would have caught that limit of bull Sunfish.

But I didn’t, so I couldn’t.

But I could’ve.

Here’s to more chances for us all to get on the water!

Nothing wrong with you, troutchaser. My wife doesn't know what to do with me. Ever since I fell asleep in the living room recliner one winter evening, and awoke in a violent flinch, as I exited a dream where I set the hook after the bobber went down the hole... When I shared the dream with her, she rolled her eyes when I told her I was disappointed that I woke up before I could "see" my catch. wink.gif
