bmc
A buddy, his boys, and I are heading up by Kenora, the first week of June. Any tips for catching lakers that time of year? We were up there last August, rain, cold, and white caps the whole time, but we still caught lakers. Then we used in line sinkers with a strip-on type spinner with a ciscoe on it. The fish we caught were suspended down about 20-30 feet over 80 feet or more of water. I'm assuming they'll be up shallower around the first of June? I've got some crankbaits that will get down to about 20' so I think they'll work. We may get some heavy spoons and try some vertical jigging if the weather allows us to stay on top of the fish and we're graphing them deep. Any other suggestions? Hemlock
Brian, where were you fishing last year, and where are you headed this year (in general)? I would say if you are up in June that they may still be somewhat shallower. It will of course depend on weather. At ice out this year, I would've predicted an early decent for lakers, but with the last three weeks of cold, I'm guessing they are slowed down a bit. June, they can still be found fairly shallow though. The only way I've fished them once they go deeper than 30' is with a heavy jig with plenty of flash. JZ
Shore fishing is the way to fish trout. They are non active and are looking for an easy meal with little or no effort
