The old "Grumman Sport Boat"

A guy at work has an old "Grumman Sport boat" I may be interested in buying but we don't know how much it is worth. I've heard they are hard to come by and often sought after since they don't make them anymore. They were the ones that were like an oversized square stern canoe.

Unfortunately, it's not camo so I'd have to do a chem treatment and paint it.

Anybody help on the value? He thinks it is 17'.

By the way, this is not a troll to sell it through this site for him or me. If I don't buy it, other guys here at work will so please don't post an inquiry to buy it or my thread will get deleted I'm sure.

The length is 15'3". They are quite collectable, and a fun boat. I think about 800.00 would be fair to both parties. We have two in my family. I watch e'bay and other areas for grumman canoes and boats. If it is in mint condition w/ no gouges or deep scratches maybe a little more. If you are thinking of paddling this boat, don't buy it, they are a beast to paddle. Push pole, rowing, or motor is the most effective way. They aren't as rare as a lot of sellers would lead you to believe though.

My Dad had one for a while. As Jerkin'm said, they are a beast to paddle conventionally.

Ours had oarlocks, and rowing worked well with that boat.

It was rated for a 5hp motor, and it would fly with that set up. When I would fish alone, it helped to have 50 pounds of ballast in the front end. It worked very well on small lakes with just a trolling motor.

Great little boat, and I wish my dad would have never sold it.

Was on Upper Red Lake a many years back and it was quite rough due to a west wind. This guy in this Gruman canoe and motor was out trolling. He would actually disappear and then reappear in the waves. Guess that is why the people like em"

They do actually still make these boats... They are listed on their HSOforum under Square stern canoes...

NADA lists the value of a 20 year old version of this boat at a max of $900

Buy it!! They are sweet boats. Occasionally you will see them in the Trib for $650- $800. I believe the weight rating on the old ones are around 1000 lbs. They are a great boat for hunting and fishing. Nice to get into remote places. I have 2 of them. I run a 15 hp on them and boy do they fly on calm water. Keep some weight in the front though. Check the transom board. I have had to replace that part. If it is a silver one you should give it a paint job for hunting otherwise the tan or olive drab hide well.
