Johnson Outboard serial #

The Chemist

Question

My dad has a 8horse that we can't seem to find the manual for and he has never used the motor so he wants the manual so he can get rid of the motor. Have no use for it. So if someone could let me know where to find the serial # I would greatly appreciate it. I'm assuming it is a late 90's. Also what would be a respectable asking price? No offers to buy this will be accepted, unless I have it listed in the for sale forum.

What is the serial # and model #

They are on a tag on the mounting plase of motor, where it hangs on transom. Could be on left or right side.

Val: I looked for a tag but didn't see one. The motor is still on the wood shipping brackets, would it be under that? Now probably a dumb question but what is the difference between a short and long shaft? I thought it refered to the handle but someone told me it was the length of the motor?

Look at this 25hp:

Long shaft and short shaft are the height of motor (15" or 20" transom)

LilBro, have you noticed there is no manual and/or model # for 1980 or newer motors ? Reason is there is a formula to use to calculate year since 1980
