Maverick41
Hello everybody. I live in Northwest MN and I have been seeing great numbers of sharptails this spring. If it stays dry the hatch should be very good. Last season's hunting was not the greatest due to the lousy wet spring we got. I think the outlook for this hunting season is good. I was wondering if anyone knows if the DNR has done their annual drum count for ruffed grouse. I'm eager to see the numbers. Happy hunting. WAG416
Maverick41........ Welcome aboard.............. Ruffed numbers were definetly down where we were hunting this past fall, it seemed like we didnt see half the birds as last year. Looking forward to hunting already. It's gonna be different without a dog this fall. My new puppy won't arrive until August. I will be looking to do ALOT more Sharptail hunting than last year. Their population seems to be improving. Maverick41
Yeah it will be different without Chomp there, but hopefully Maverick will be better in the woods this year and not range out so far, I know he'll be ready for the sharptails. The sharptails are all over by my place, I haven't really been out early in the mornings or in the evenings to listen for ruffys drumming. But I hope it's better than last year, I'm hoping to get at least 15 this year, 20 or so would be nice. When you gonna buy a shorthair???
WAG416
Maverick- 15-20 ruffs huh? Your shooting skills must improve in order to get close to those numbers. I'm just playin'. SAY ! That trophy is looks pretty good in my house, dont you think. I belive its been there for 4 years now. Only time will tell on the short hair. I dont want to have two puppy's to train at the same time , Yet! I'm getting my chocolate in August. Can't wait. The only thing I fear is not being able to train it like I trained Chomp. The mother seems to be a great dog. I spoke with Brian the other day as he was fishing at down @ Meekma's. Him and all of his dog's have taken over our chub fishing spot. That place brings back memories. WAG
Maverick41
It's not the question of the my shooting, it's if I actually get out enough. The trophy will be mine next year as Maverick will prove his worth in the grouse woods. So you are getting a dog from Brian huh? Does it come with papers or not? If it does look at it's parents pedigree and see what kind of stock it comes from.
