SAR5
What knot do you use to connect the Spiderline or other type of super line to the mono backing? And what pound mono do you use? Thank you for your help.
Muskydanno
I use a blood knot (it has several names , thats the one i use)to tie two different lines together or the same type of line for that matter. Overlap the two lines a few inches and wrap them around each other six or 8 times then push the line apart until you get one of the loops to open up in the center and run one end from the top and one from the bottom and pull the two tight while pulling on the tag ends of the line. You need about 4 hands for this sometimes. Works great but can take some practice to get proficient at it. I've found that you want to match the diameter of the mono backer to the diameter of the super line as close as possible. When i spool up my 56 or 80 pound power pro i will usually use 14 to 17 pound test trilene as a backer. I hear of alot of people putting a strip of electric tape on the spool and forgetting about the backer too. With the price of superlines though adding a backer can be the most bang for your buck unless after a season you wind the line off the spool onto another empty reel to make use of the unused portion of the line.Hope this helps.
