fishingmad
Hi all,Is there a particular way that scratched out areas on the sides or backs of aluminium boats should be repainted? Can we just spray paint it over or can Lund help provide some touch up paint? Thanks
0 marine_man
Most lund dealers are able to order or have touch up paint available.. it'll be spendy, but they have it...marine_man
0 MNmikew
Yes, I repainted my '72 Lund 14' last year using origional Lund paint and stickers, yikes! I think the paint alone was $15 a can(spraypaint) and I used 4 cans. Looks great though.
0 Captain B.R.K
MNmikew - Did you order your paint right from a Lund dealer? How much work and $$$ did you put into taking the original paint off if you don't mind me asking??? Be interested to know because I might be looking at doing the same to my Lund. Thanks! 0 fishingmad
Well, I do not mind paying a little bit to get the paint touched up. I have a few rashes here and there and some minor scratches and want to clean it up. How do I order it and how do I do the touch ups?
0 out_fisherman
Just a thought - Paint applied today may not match up well with the sameidentical color which the sun/weather has faded for "x" years. I had a section of my '91 Lund repainted after astorm thrashed it against a dock, and to this day thedifference is clearly visible. But, it's still a greatboat to me. If anyone gives me dump - I don't take 'em out!
0 Steve Bakken
If your paint has any weathering or fading to it, I would suggest that you do the whole panel. We've painted numerous boats-some that were just a few years old where the paint already didn't match the replacement paint. For small scratches and chips, you'd get by just brush-touching them, cause the spots are too small to notice a color difference. But if you're doing an area that requires the use of a spray can, you may want to do a small test panel and then after it dries, hold it up to the boat and see what the match looks like.
