Early Bassin' informal get together - Pool 4/Lake Pepin

Here is the info:

When: April 30th, meet at 8am & fish as long as you want!

Where: Meeting/Launching at the Wilcox Landing (free DNR launch) south of Wabasha (close to intersection of county rd 30 & county rd 24), located in the heart of the backwaters grin.gif

Why: We already have about 3-4 boats going and decided to open it up to meet some more FM'ers

I was down there last Saturday with Sami0015 and the backwaters were in the upper 50's and main channel in the low/mid 50's. If it warms next week (like it says it's going to) the 30th will be primed for a hot bass spawn bite! There is bigger tourney being held that same weekend (KFAN/St.Jude) but I was out there last year during the tourney and the traffic wasn't that bad.

If you are interested in joining us - feel free to email me at the email address below and I'll shoot you more the details - although this pretty much sums it up.

As of right now we've got: Sami/BigMike, Hawgtide/Riverwader, Biglakeba$$/GiantJerkpot, Ebass/friend... We may through a $5 bigbass idea out there, we'll see when we get down there.

Who else is in? grin.gif Oh yeah - let the trash talkin' begin...

Thinking about it. I have never fished the backwaters there. Do you have to worry about hitting underwater stumps and what does one need to be aware of if if you go out? I have a 20' pontoon boat that I take my kids on to fish off. Just installed a new 70lb thrust minkota trolling motor on. Would you put in at the ramp at the end of t-341 or the one a bit further south? Never launched at any of these locations and just don't want to make a mistake this early in the season! :0

Hey just because I live on a golf course doesn't mean that I can play... Let's just stick to bassin' and then i won't have anything to worry about!

Anyone else interested in joining us on April 30th on Pool 4 for some early bassin' with fellow FM'ers...?

i think i am in. I would be willing to do the biggest bass thing too. Maybe a time to sit around and shoot the dump should be planned to so we can hear about the one that got away and see what everyone is using. thanks for things like this fellas.

Dang Sami, You sound like my long lost twin. That about where I "was". I say that because I quit golf cold turkey to fish. I won my club championship in late summer of 2003 and have only golfed 2 times since then. It's all or nothing for me. I plan to get back into golfing again this year, but I'm so obsessed with fishing now. How in the world does one have two major obsessions? frown.gif

Carl - I don't know about a pontoon boat - may be a little too big for the backwaters... Probably ok out on the main river - but may sit too low to make it safely into the backwaters. We'd love to have you join us, just don't want you to mess your boat up...

Ike - come on down. We'll probably shoot the breeze for while in the afternoon (probably set a time up to all meet back at the launch and share stories/bass) and maybe head out again for those who are planning on staying for a while.

Sami, sounds like you have an accomodating wife and family. I usually fish a couple of nights a week and then Saturday and Sunday Mornings. Golf and Fishing are so time consuming.

I need to hit the lottery so I can quit work and spend my time the right way.

If it stays too cool, my presentation will be from my couch. grin.gif

I'm not sure of the water temps and what stage the bass are in down there. I've never been there before. I'll probably pitch jig and pigs and maybe try swimming them. Try to find out how aggressive and active they are. Mix it up until I can find a pattern.

Not much - it looks like it's going to be upper 50's - 60 degrees and sunny/partly sunny for Thur, Fri, Sat. and should push temps back into the mid-50's (hopefully higher). I'll probably be sticking to the jig'n pig, flippin' tube (brush hawg), & buzzbait... If we head out to search for smallies - I'll definitely have a tube & suspending jerkbait tied on! The smallies topped the scales last weekend for the FOM tourney - near 20lbs for a 5 fish bag! Big fish was a 4.94lber! WOW!

Ike - FOM stands for fishers of men... it's a pretty big bass league. There is a HSOforum, but I can't post it on here. I would just try to look it up on the internet... They just had their tourney down on Pool 4 & 5. Top teams all weighed in smallies.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
