Walleye spawn

Anybody know if the younger walleyes spawn before or after the big girls. Just curious. Watched a bunch of walleyes this morning in a near by creek. Mostly 14 to 20 inch fish. Seen one that was probably close to 24 inches long. What a cool sight to see, sat for an hour and a half watching them, waiting to see that real big girl.

You may have been seeing a lot of males. The water temp might be a little cool for the walleye spawn. If I recall right the optimum temperature is about (and I'm probably a few degrees off) 46-54. I think that observing the large females will happen in your stream when it warms up to that temp.

I watched the same thing before this dump cold front moved in. It was a river and the walleyes were just crusin' around the rocks. It was quite a site to see so many eyes in one spot.
