Trap shooting

I would think a good patern would not let many by at all.If your getting a lot of "dust" then I am willing to bet your just a tad behind them.

Or above or below them can do the same thing.

See if a friend can stand behind you to watch where the wad is at after you shoot.

It should be just slightly behind the bird if your hitting them, and above, below or behind by a ways if your getting dust.

Also have them watch your swing to see if your stopping or lifting the gun just after you pull the trigger.

I seen a guy so quick to pull the gun down after he pulled the trigger that he shot the house once.

Lifting your head off the stock is a common mistake made by every one at some time or another.

Same with stopping the swing.

If your pattern is good, and your using chilled shot you should break chips at least if your close to the clay.

I have heard of to soft a shot, the lead was so mallable it would't break the clays all the time.

Very uncommon now days though, but concivable.

What choke restriction ,size and weight shot are you using?

Barrel length can play a factor, but I have found it is less important than the choke retriction.

I use Federal top gun with 1-1/8 ounce loads of 7-1/2 at 20yds and 8's at 16 yards.

A full trap choke or at least a full choke.

I used to sware by a modified choke till I started shooting the full trap choke and saw nothing but dust on most shots.

Good shooting there, sounds like you had a good time.

I want to shoot an ATA shoot this year if I get time to, but it isn't that important right now.

Next year if my shooting success is the same I want to see if I can place in the ATA for this area.

I am not too worried about it, but I just wonder. I shoot a modified with 1 1/8 oz of Federal 8s ...the Walmart 4 pack. My league average stands at 23.6 and would be better but I was pretty rusty to start with. I would say that maybe 3 birds this year should have broke that didnt. The others I know why I missed. It's all good, my man.

Another great night for shooting, too bad the heat was turned up.

Shot a 25,23 out at Crow River club.I broke my perfect run there now, but I am still leading the AA class by 5 birds and the most 25 straight, and top gun as well.My average is 24 out there, when last year it was only a 22.

The temps cooled down and a breeze picked up for the Beaverbrook club.Shot a 25 and a 24 out there, moved up to 9th out of 215 shooters with an average of 23.89 there.

Any one want to shoot a fall legue out at Beaverbrook in East Bethal???

I would like to get a team together to shoot there. As soon as I get the details I will post them here.

Benny,

I might be interested, get me the particulars. Although I am lagging behind your average at 23.5. Been inconsistent of late...a 22 (I am not sure what happened) and then a 25 that every bird was smoked.

Hey Cody it doesn't matter to me at all what you shoot for an average. It's all about having fun and making new friends to shoot with.

The fall league starts September 1 st and goes into the first week or two of October every Wednsday night.

Not sure if they shoot handicap or straight score, but it should be fun.

If the team I shoot on now doesn't want to do the fall shoot then I want to put together an FM team.

I too was off last night, shot a 23.But I climbed to the 6th spot out of 215 shooters.

We were sent to trap house #4 but the thrower was just lobbing the bird out.It barely cleared the top of the house, so we asked them to fix it.

Should have left it be as they found a broken spring and cranked the good one way up.

That caused the birds to shoot straight up out of the house,we could have had an easy round had we kept our mouth shut and just shot the easy targets.

Snap shooters, in the A class.

Last year we were in the D class but we shot real good this year in the first three weeks, so we got bumped up to the A class.

I was 6th place on last weeks over all shooter's list.

My initials are BLD.

I usualy get to the range around 6:15 and order a burger with the team.We sit inside at the middle table by the desk.

You may know Ozy,and Ken Snaap. They have been mebers there for a long time, I started there in 1993.

I don't get how they are scoring the class as far as who is the top team and who is the bottom team, all I know for sure is that my team isn't going to win any trophys.

I think we are barley holding off the bottom team, had some guy come up to us last week and asked who we were doing.

Don't know who he was or why he wanted to know that, maybe we jumped a few spots?

We had a bad week last week, I hope to shoot better this week. Our other top shooter was off as well, he only shot a 20 when he usually gets a 23 or 24 so we are hurting now.

Do you know Dale Pfipher(sp?), he shoots on a team with his brother in law and a couple of friends there.

He used to be my nieghbor some years back before moving to Andover.

I will look for you, but if I don't see you check the club house to see if we are in there at about 6:50 or so.

I will ware my FM hat so you can pick me out.

Well it was nice to meet you Dave, I had to leave right away after I shot but I should be able stay for a beer next week.

Man I just can't shake this stopping the swing curse I have had lately.

I only mustered a 117 out of 125 clays shot tonight between the two leagues I shoot.

I caught my self twice stopping the swing as I pulled the trigger, of coarse I missed the clay each time I did it.

Getting to over confedent, and not consentrating is most likely the problem.I dust em if I make sure to follow through, and not think about the finial score.

Dave looked good out there tonight, I think he shot a 24 if I am not mistaken.

The Crow River club was brutal for the wind blowing, the clays were dancing all over the place.

Beaverbrook was windy as welll, just not as bad.

Well there is always next week.

Man that sounds like it was a feast, I had my parents down from GR so I had to run home and visit.

My daughter wanted to go up there for a week so they came down to get her.

I went to the rifle range before I shot trap, had to shoot my CCW pistol.

I want to put some different sights on it as these adjustable ones dig into my side when sitting.

But I forgot my range box so there was no tools to change them.I still put some holes in the paper though.

Next week I am bringing my Garand and CETME out to shoot.

Nothing beats that "Bing" as the endbloc clip flyes out of that Garand.

Speaking of new guns, I might bring out a Remington Ideal to try.

A friend has two O/U he wanted to sell, one Pearless and the Ideal.

I like my Super X 1 but it is an old gun and could break any time.I know where I can get parts but they are spendy for that model.

See you there, Benny

Well the summer league is over, now we start the fall league this week.

Ended the summer with a 23.98 average at Beaverbrook and was 7th out of 215 shooters.

My work league ends next week and I am at a 24.02 average there at Crow river and now hold top gun honors and A class as well.

How are the rest of you doing??

Finished at Metro at 23.7. If I wouldnt have started in such a hole, I could have helped myself out a bit, but starting the season with a 21 and a 22 didnt help. Oh well. It was fun. Starting to think about some real bird shooting now....

Wow, I didn't see any of that happen.I was down under the new pavilion and watched those guys shoot down there.

There were several guys who were winning more than one turkey.

In fact I saw one guy win 4 or 5 , he just kept going up there and shooting.

Glad I stayed out of it, I did bring my gun and as good as I shot earlier at Crow river (another straight 50)I should have been up there.

I have to agree that some of those people who are life time members think they are owed some thing.

Val is a smart (back side) as well, I asked if we were getting trophys for top gun on the teams.

She just about bit my head off for asking , then asked why I wasn't going to wait for the presentations.

It was already 8:45 PM and they were still eating and shooting meat shoots so I know it would be 9:30 at least before they got ant thing going.

It is a 30 minute drive one way for me so I had to go.My kid can't be up that late or she won't get out of bed at 5 AM to go to day care.

I wasn't to happy with the meal either, paid $10 per extra person for ham sandwich, beans and patato's.All of which were cold by the time they started letting us go in to eat.

I am shooting the fall league so we will see if that one is better.

yea the meal realy P.O. alot of people it was pretty lame,,,think about it this way,,it's $6.50 for a practice round witch there is alot of profit in that...we pay $8.00 on tuesday for leagues and at 250 shooters on the roster thats $375.00 per nite times 20 weeks thats $7.500 plus all of the $10.00 extra plates we all spent...and we get ham sandwich with attitude's? kinda makes a guy wonder

If I get the chance I will bring my daughter, but we are planning on the State fair Saturday and her birthday party is Sunday.

So it is a busy weekend for us.
