Timber
Six of us are going lake trout fishing on Lake of the Woods at Whitefish Bay the end of May/beginning of June. We'll be staying at the Rod and Reel at Souix Narrows. We want to make certain we know/follow the fishing regulations. Is the limit one per day, with two in possession? And can we "party fish"; that is, if we've already caught and kept, say two fish, can we continue to use six lines? Or, since we have two, can only four people continue to fish? I know there's something about "trophy lakes", but not certain if Whitefish Bay is included. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hemlock
Timber,Give the MNR in Kenora a call. They should be able to answer your questions, and you can feel confident in the answers. I'm not 100% certain, and do not want to misguide you. Should be a good trip! 807-468-2501
Timber
Hemlock, I tried the number you gave for the MNR at Kenora, 807-468-2501 and they say it's no longer in use. Do you have another?
Hemlock
Wierd....I just called it and it goes right into their automated options. Possibly doesn't work from the US, but that is not something that would make sense. That sometimes happens with toll free numbers. Unless they've been having an unusually high number of calls from the US with the latest netting squabble, maybe they've blocked US callers
fisherking01
Hemlock, any luck with the annexation into Minnesota Yet?Plans cancelled for june trip a couple of weeks ago, Officiated another memorial service for a friend tonight. I'm thinking the trip is back on. Looking like we're in Kenora the night of June 17. As far as trout go, catch and release is unlimited. Anyway, good luck fishing to all. Hemlock
Hey Fisherking01...I've put the annexation on the back burner until summer is over anyways. I will mark my calender and try and be available for that evening. If you need any help or anything from this end, you know how to get a hold of me. Hemlock
I just called the MNR here. I thought I was getting a fuzzy answer, but maybe I just worded the question wrong.I eventually asked the question like this:Can people continue to fish once their limit is caught? (gave the example of 6 people fishing/shore fishing with 4 fish in the cooler/livewell)The answer was: "As long as they are catch and release, they can continue to fish"I hope this helps. JZ
I think sometimes asking grey questions only makes the MNR Write policy for these questions, And I also think they should not even be asked. People shouldn't read into the rules so much by letting the mind wander, there is no limit the situations where the same rule applies sometimes and not the other. Common sense people, Read the rule book and if its not straight forward than it's problem not a rule. Like the no Culling in minnestoa. Use some common sense and it won't be a problem.
