Summer-time Night fishing

Hello Minnesota!

Just wondering if you guys are still up for a night fishing get-together on July 2nd? I am planning a trip to my Mom's (she lives in St.Louis Park) for a couple of days around the 4th of July. Just wanting to see if I can plan some fishing at 'Tonka during my stay. A few of you had mentioned that you would like to explore the "night-fishing" angle of competitive bass fishing that we do here in Northern California during the summer months.

Side note to my season this year: I have been middle of the pack in some of the events that I have entered this year. The swim-bait has really cooked my goose in 2 of the 3 events that I entered. One pro came in with 5 fish for 36.40 pounds of fish, all caught on swimbaits. I thought I was doing okay with 9.48 for 5 fish. The last 2 weeks we have been catching a few fish on the beds, but most of them have been males. I did fish a team event with 180 boats a week ago and we took 35th getting the last check. We caught a limit early (largemouth bass)on blades and flukes and upgraded with three smallies (all on beds in about 12'), 5 fish going 10.91.

Hope some of you all want to hook up in July.

hey dan, nite bass fishing, sounds fun. The second is a saturday of the long weekend, my wife's out of the country so I could go.

Most fisherman head up north somewhere on this weekend. We'll see. I doubt your haulin your boat all this way. Give me a shout if ya need a ride for a day.

Bring a couple swimbaits with ya in a natural color. Muskies will eat em if the bass don't

take care

Sounds great! And no, I will have to leave the Ranger at home. Although, the little misses and kiddies will take her place (this is one reason why night fishing is popular during summer vacation. I'm fishin while mom and the kids are sleeping. They hardly know I was missing. Not to mention less boat traffic and noise.)

Have you tried the "Mission Fish" swimbaits? They are weedless and look like a fluke with a swimbait tail.

Frog fishing should be underway at 'Tonka depending on how hot it is for the 4th. Which one of the 'Tonka bays has the deepest rocky structure?

Maybe Exude Dude (Deitz), Dan Wood (is Dan still around?), Granny, Ebass, and all the other famous forum bassers will come out of hiding to "batman fish" 'Tonka. Too early to tell, but not too early to plan.

Looking forward to fishing beefaholic,

dan

I might be able to be talked into this.. I have never night fished Tonka before... Knowing the lake would be very important as with all the channels and such finding them in the dark could be hard.. a spot light in the boat would almost be a must... I'll have to look at my sched and look to see what that weekend looks like.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
