CodyDawg
I have been going to Lac Seul for about 18 years out of Mahkwa. I have never really targeted smallies before and wonder if anyone has ever caught them in the middle part of the lake? We catch a few by mistake every year, but that is all. Anybody ever have any success?
Hugo
Cody,Fished for them one afternoon. Caught several in some of the bays (North of the resort) but they were small with the biggest probably 15" or so. We fished wood along the shore and rocks. The wood was much more productive for us. Didn't give them alot of time since the walleye bite was so good.Dave
Benny
I too have tried my luck for them, caught a few but nithing big.Try the rock piles right out front of the resort(bird island), also if you run up past Windigo you will see a rock pile to the right of the narrows up there.Try them as well.BE VERY CAREFULL through there though, we found a sunken island of rocks just two inches under the water. There used to be a marker bouy there but it has been gone now for a few years. The rocks are just West of Eagle Island , there is another spot to try too.The rocky points off Eagle island. We won't make it to Mhukwa this year, too many people bailed out on our group this year.Benny
CodyDawg
Benny,Where exactly is that rock pile? If you go past Windigo to the NW, there is an island. We usually go to the north of that island to go farther up the lake. After that island has passed to our south, I know there is a rock pile kind of out in the middle, is that the one you are talking about? Or is it over toward Eagle?I was kinda hoping someone had really laid into the smallies, but I guess not. We too, have caught a few here and there, but never really caught more than a couple at any one spot.
Benny
If you come out into the main lake headed toward Windigo you would go south of windigo and then start heading slightly North. If your on the rock pile you can see all the way up to the North west and all the way down to the narrows going past the ferry.Eagle island is less than a 1/2 mile directly North east of the rock pile.I have the coordanents in the GPS I sold, have to get over to the guys house to pull them out before he erases them.Hope this helps,if still fuzzy I can find it on my mapes and see if we can get you on the spot.Benny
CodyDawg
Benny, I would really like to pinpoint it from a safety standpoint. We roar through that general area quite a bit and have never found them. I have good maps and a GPS, so I can find it somehow. Pretty darn scary really. We have a couple like that as well that all of a sudden there they are. the low water of two years ago was really an eye opener. Found a couple really bad ones. So far, we have only touched one. Broke a skag off, so it wasnt too bad.
