Salmon Fishing on Sakacawea (Missouri River)

Recommended Posts

Grump,

I caught quite a few salmon last year. We would catch them while we were long line trolling for walleyes. Caught them on Reef Runners and Little Ripper Deeps. They are fun to catch on planer boards.

I'd never claim to be an expert on the salmon fishing, but there are plenty in Sak. I know from Beulah to the east seems to be better, year in and year out. Lots of guys troll right in front of the dam. I don't have downriggers and flashers, so the only way I've caught them is by long lining crankbaits. That's the cool thing mid summer, troll Reef Runners for walleyes and you're bound to catch at least one.

hey guys. i'm in the osage area, near detroit lakes. is there any part of the river where you can cast for these fish? fly or spincasting. sounds like a pretty big river, and like they are deep.

always wondering...
