Deer hide

does anyone know the best and quickest way to presearve a deer hide. i found one out in the woods and i only want to save it fir tying flies for fishing, so it doesnt need to be streched, made soft, or anything special. i just dont want it to stink when it gets warm. thanks

I'd assume that if you just shaved the hair off and left the skin you'd be fine.

if your just going to use the hair,flesh the hide,completely salt the hide and change the salt after 1 day and resalt,do this until the hide is close to hard as cardboard,then sprinkle a little borax on the dry hair side to moth proof it.when i say flesh the hide i mean to trim off as much fat and meat as possible. any questions just ask.

If all you want is the hair, soak it in a lime/water solution. The hair will all fall off the hide and then you can dispose of the hide. This is how fir places remove the hair to make leather.
