Xmas GPS

I'm looking to buy a GPS unit for my boat for Xmas. I'm not very knowledgeable about GPS units. I'm looking for a unit that will stay in by boat, not a small hand held unit. I want a unit with good mapping capabilities. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried searching the forum for past threads on this? I don't know squat about in-boat GPS w/mapping, having a small handheld myself. But there have been tons of GPS threads in the last coupla years.

lowrance in my opinoin makes the best boat unit on the market.
I currently have a 350a and it still works great. and with the new units they have out, even thou they are spendy, are the best on the market.
