I've never been in a tournament. I really don't know the first thing about them. However, I've been thinking that I would like to try one. I have a friend who I think would join me. I would like to find an inexpensive, very low key walleye tournament just to get my feet wet. Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated!

well i would say to check out the MWT, Minnesota Walleye Trail. entry fee 250 per qualifier and they take the top 30 teams to the championship. field of 75 teams. they travel to different lakes every year. this year they will be at lake minnetonka, lake reno, n&s lida, lake pepin (pool 4), and the championship at gull lake. but the tourneys fillin up fast. one day events on sunday, except the championship which is a two day event. the guys that fish it have a great time, and its a good learning experience. if interested check it out at polebender.com

Fish Head,

If you are interested in fishing a single tournament, look into the North Star Fall Classic. It is held on LOW, and all events are out of Wig Wam Resort. I think this year the dates are October 7 & 8. It is a great time and a bunch of great people. They are also having a Spring Tournament this year, not sure of the dates, but you can give a call up to the Wig Wam and they can get you all the information you will need. I am pretty sure the entry fee is $335.00 per team with 100 teams allowed to enter. Check this one out it is a blast. I have fished this the last five years and really have a great time. If you need a partner let me know.

A real low key, inexpensive tournament would be the LETS league, here on FishingMN. $40 entry fee per event and there are 4 events. This is a multi-species tournament, and we have a lot of fun. You can see all the specifics on this forum under "Statewide LETS".

I have fished several big walleye tournaments, and I continue to compete in some, but LETS always brings me back. There aren't too many "inexpensive" walleye tournaments out there. They seem to get more expensive every year.

I agree with Chuck LETS is a blast!

Also........I have fished the Northstar Classic for two years now and that one is ALOT of fun!!! Boy did we have some wind this fall!!!

I am fishing the MTT this year, and that seems like a pretty reasonable tournament, $100.00 a guy for each event, that is pretty inexpensive as far as tourneys go. I am looking forward to the first one on the Mississippi in April!!

Threeway,

I have not fished many around "here" besides LETS and some private tournaments on OT Lake, and an E. Battle event last summer.

I've fished the Mercury Walleye Classic on Leech, Kraus-Anderson Bemidji tourney and this year we are going to try the Lac Qui Parle event (on the waiting list) and the Fall classic on Minnewaska if it's going this year. Every year I miss the Battle Lake tourney due to LETS. frown.gif

If you are interested in walleye fishing at a low cost, I think the FLW Walleye League tournaments are great. You can enter as a Co-Angler for $75. I fished one tournament last year and am now hooked. I will be fishing the whole MN circuit. It's very well organized and you don't have to worry about a boat or gear. Take a look.

I inquired about entering a LETs tournament and was informed that it is a league that would require fishing in all the tournaments.

I think I'll look into the FLW. The North Star Fall Classic sounds like it would be fun too in Oct. I have fished that area many times.

Thanks for the help guys.

Fish Head, I don't believe I heard from you on LETS. I'm the President of the Statewide and there is a Metro league also. Statewide accepts teams for individual events, but only if we do not fill the 15 teams. May 1 is the date when openings will be posted and able to fill. I have a list of teams on a 1st come, 1st served basis for each event. If you would like to sign up, feel free to contact me. [email protected]

I received a response from my email to Dan Wood that said "We don't accept individual entrants at this time, so

it would be the full league." That must have been for the Metro only. I will email you for more info.

Thanks!
