Any Thoughts - Berkley Vanish / Spider Line Fusion?

Just looking for a little input, I have been using Power Pro for the last three years now, I switched from using Berkley XT. I really like the way the Power Pro handles and fishes and also the small diameter.

Last night I was spooling up a couple of new reels with 20lb. Vanish, this stuff feels like steel cable compared to the Power Pro. Does Vanish have alot of memory once it has been on for a while, how does it hold up? I know in clear water conditions it it great stuff, so I've been told, what are the down falls if any?

Next, I bought a spool of 17lb. Spider Line Fusion in moss green, and put it on another reel last week, this line has low memory as far as being coily coming off the spool, but when you tie on a lure and bend it, it seems to hold that kink, anyone fish this line, and what are the pros and cons of both lines mentioned above, and in what conditions do they excell over Power Pro?

I hate to sound like I am stuck in the mode of using only one line, but it sure seems hard to beat how well Power Pro stands up in all conditions, and as far as the fish detecting the line, I think the only one that would win in that catagory would be the Vanish, but I always fish the moss green color, and in most situations (water clarity) I belive it does quite well!

Wormburner, How are you doing? I have used both the vanish and the fusion, I didn't like the fusion because it didn't hold up very well. The Vanish is a nice line, It does have pretty high line memory though, I have used Vanish as a leader teamed with the PowerPro in clearwater conditions or when I need a shock a shock absorber. Just tie the two lines together with a UNI-UNI knot, I think the diagram it on the inside of the PowerPro spools. I usually use about 3 feet for a leader. Vanish sinks faster then most lines and a lot of guys like that when fishing deeper water, keeps the line lower in the water colum (Better sensitivity) and not floating on the survace, like some mono's do. If you are looking to stay with a zero stretch super braid then stick with the PowerPro, it is the best! Later AJ

Hey Andy, hows it going? I have went over board this year, I have boughten 8 more rods and reels, so I thought I would try something new on a couple of them. When I fish, I usually use anywhere from 6 - 7 rods (would rather fish than tie lures), and also have about 3 or so along for the just in case times, so I will try it this year in the begining and see what happens.

Good to hear from ya!!

have used the fusion on heavy spionning reels for carp and cats but that is about all that i have found it to be good for. Like someone said earlier it falls apart easily and it holds any kink put into the line. tried it on a baitcaster once and it kept digging into the spool. I know one of the downfalls to the Vanish is that it is a lot stiffer than mono, but really each line fishes different for different people and you wont know if you like them until you have tried them.

burner. i have never tried the vanish, but may try some as a leader mat. we've used the fussion , but i have gone to power pro. the fussion seemed to fray easily( but i've never had it break) it does seem more stiff. i do have one spool of it left.( i'm putting that on my sons' rod ! grin.gif) i'll stay with the P.P. we run the #20 on bass rods , and #80 on our muskie rods. del

My Dad prefers the Fusion, but I think it's because he's never tried PowerPro. I used it once and it flattens out like ribbon. It is very difficult to tie also because it slips easily. I think I tried every kind available last year and PowerPro is by far the best, IMHO. A distant 2nd Choice was Stren Super braid.

Last night as I was spooling the line on, I had one thought, will it be as sensitive as Power Pro meaning feeling the bottom or what areas your fishing, and I don't think they will compare.

I am not trying to start a Power Pro debate, but I don't think they will even fish close to PP, gotta love the flexibility! smirk.gif
