I located this unit on the internet, new in the box for $300. seems like a good buy, but I can't find any information on this unit on the net. Is is a discontinued model?? does anyone have one and if so, how do you like it...does the motorized rotation work well, any other problems, gripes, complaints or praises on it?? thanks

The VS 500 is a dicountinued unit. I have the VS400 which is a step down from the VS 500 , The VS 500 has the motorized rotation that is nice and I believe it has the direction arrow feature on the screen. $300 would be a good buy, They retailed somewhere between $400-$500 I believe. Marcum are great camaras.

Ryan, I picked a 500 up this Fall, probably from the same place you did. $300. Nice unit. It is discontinued and replaced by the 560. Has lighting options of all off/InfraRed/LED. The motorized camera arm works great once you get use to it and the direction arrow on the screen lets you know which way you are looking. Also has a battery gauge on the screen so you know how your battery is doing. It's your money but I'd say buy it, You wont't find a better bargain than this anywhere.

Ryan, Got my ovs500 on e.bay for $295 last november. I've used it at least 20 times since then with absolutely no trouble. I love it.

However, you are taking a chance. The factory warranty is void. The seller offers a 30 day warranty, but thats not much. Its a dump shoot.

I guess for a savings of 200 bucks I decided to take my chances and so far I'm very satisfied. They sold new 2 years ago for $495.

It was an auction for 9 cameras. There were 7 bidders (one bid on two)for a total of 8 sold (one didnt sell). The final price was $295 with free shipping. There is one left, if you are still interested, I could email him and see if he wants to sell it. Send me an email at dab829 at charter dot net and I will check on it for you. At that price (assuming you dont get a lemon), it is a good deal. The seller has a 30 day warranty but I dont know about the manufacturers warranty as described above.

I emailed Marcum about it and this was their reply about the warranty. "You have a 1 year warranty from date of purchase so you should definitely register. Yes the VS500 is discontinued but they are good systems and we will be able to support them for the foreseeable future.
