Down to Earth
I have a couple non-spinning reel setups I use for ice fishing and the line on them hasn't been replaced since I received them. Its looks pretty heavy and I'd like to replace it. What would you recommend I replace it with? Also I'm planning to pick up a couple of tip-ups and would like some advice as to what kind/pound test line I should put on them.Thanks.Andy
Deitz Dittrich
DTE-how about some more details... What is your goal for this rod?.. For tip-ups I like the black braided dacron- I like that you can see it against the ice so well and works for keeping tangles... I also like its larger diam for cold fingers. I will alwyas use about a 5' leader of mono!
CrappieJohn
Andy....If you are talking the stick rods, go with six pound in a blue flourescent for on-ice visiblity but tie in a four foot, two pound clear leader when fishing pannies. Want to do waldo, skip the leader.
Down to Earth
Tom,I didn't even think about tying on a leader. I could probably do that with the line I currently have on the set up.Dietz,My main goal is for fishing panfish. I'm not sure what type of rod they are, though, they are probably what Tom refers to as a stick rod. Its basically a rod and on the one end it has a reel, but is used just for line storage. Sorry for the lack of detail as my ice fishing knowledge is pretty poor. Hope to learn a little bit more at the Backwater Brawl on the 19th.Andy
Gissert
For the last several winters, I have been running 8 pound fireline on my spinning rigs, and then a flourocarbon leader, usually 4 pound test. I tie a small, high quality ball bearing swivel inbetween the leader and the fireline. This helps keep jig spin to a minimum.
CRAPPIEBAIT
3# P-Line for pan fish & 5# or 6# for Walleye/Perch.This is just what I've used the past few years and I can't say enough good stuff about it.
