Yamaha 130 outboard

I'm looking at possibly buying a used boat that has a 130 yamaha 2 stroke on it. Model year 2002. Can anyone give me any info they might have as to the reliability and overall performance of this engine. Thanks.

I rented a boat in Florida a few years ago with that engine and I could not believe how much raw gas I could smell in the exhaust. It was far worse than any other 2 stroke I have ever seen. Since it was a rental I would imagine it had a lot of hours on it so that might account for some of the stink. There is no way you could back troll all day with that thing and come back alive. Not good.

I have a 1990 Yamaha 90 horse and I love it. Never had a problem with it, it will troll down to 400 rpm, starts fine, and man does it shoot out of the hole. Now i know that its older then yours, but they are a quality motor. And I have heard that mercury's computer systems in the new 4 strokes are completely made by yamaha. I do not know if thats true, but i would not hesitate at all in buying that boat! brian-

The 130 is a good motor. Very strong and smooth running. Have seen very few problems with them. But before buying any used boat and motor, be sure to get it checked over.
