What's the best hand auger?

This might have been answered another thread somewhere, but i'll ask anyway: How does the Nils Master do on opening old frozen holes ( as in a permanent fish house?) .

Woody you said it right. I never let anyone use mine. Ill cut all the holes they want but I dont want to have to wait for blades. I really should just call and get a extra set on hand just in case.

I have both a morra and a laser style 8" hand auger. I do not like either for opening frozen holes, but the laser seems to work better. I have lost blades on my morra before and always keep an extra one in the takle box. The laser drills a lot smother but my morra cuts faster.

My first was a Mora but I now have a Lazer. I really like it.

I finally bought a hand auger tonight. I'm guessing $20 for a 6" Laser Strikemaster is a pretty good buy?? It pays to wander through the sporting goods section at Walmart once in awhile. LOL

Now if a guy should hook a nice one at first ice, do you think an 8 lbs plus walleye would fit through that hole?? I've only used a 10" in the past.

I had a 7 inch lazer earlier this year (someone stole it) and I was able to drill 2 holes right next to each other (making one big hole) to make using the vexilar a little easier. As I found out it made landing the fish easier too. I would try that if your really worried, but I think you should be able to get some pretty big fish through a 6in hole.

My 2 cents - I have a Mora & a Lazer, the Mora is easier to work, however the Lazer will redrill holes in the permanent and the Mora won't. Glad I got the Lazer, it sure beats moving the house 2 feet every time I go out.
