B. Amish
Here is a great story of restoring habitat in MN. Much of the habitat is ideal for waterfowl, so I thought I'd post it here. It's pretty neat to see that a project of this scale can be accomplished.http://refuges.fws.gov/generalInterest/GlacialRidgeNWR.html
hanson
B. Amish-It is impressive, definitely. The land is very unique in that it is on the beach of ancient lake agassiz. I was born & raised in Crookston and spent the first 18 years of my life there so am pretty familiar with this property. It is home to thousands of migrating sandhill cranes every year and the prairie chicken population is exploding. 2 weeks ago, I was driving on HWY 2 along the north side of the refuge and counted well over 50 prairie chickens out in the fields. This area used to hold a large number of moose but they are few and far between now.Kind of makes you feal good about buying a duck stamp.
hobbydog
The Nature Consevancy is a great organization. They have bought thousands of acres in the state and have been quietly restoring them. In NW MN they have purchaced thousands of acres in the aspen parkland areas between Greenbush and Lancaster and formed the Wallace Dayton natural area. They allow hunting with few minor exceptions/restictions,like no motorized vehicles (ATVs). They do good work. The Glacial Ridge area is a real gem, great to see it put away for future generations.
