Christmas lake winter trout?

Has anyone here had any level of success on Christmas lake by Excelsior for winter rainbows? Thanks.

I sure have! I've caught a few 8+ lb rainbows out there during the winter months. Still haven't broken the 10lb mark yet. Hope too soon.

I second Renneberg, but don't get your hopes up too high. Three years ago the big fish were there, but they have been fewer and farther between since then. My guess is that the few fish that avoid the numerous northern pike end up getting caught and not released. It sure would be nice to see some more consistent trout fishing out there again.

Almost all the big rainbows I have caught out there are brood stock from the DNR. Those trout are stocked between 6-13 lbs and there numbers depend on the number stock every year. Pike have little effect on them.

However, I have caught a few 16 to 24 inch rainbows that looked to clean to have been recently stocked. Some of those small trout that they stock seem to grow big out there too, but not many.
