converting a vexilar transducer?

I just got my first vexilar fl-8. It works great but it has the "puck" style transducer that is connected to an arm that comes off from the box. I was wondering if anyone has ever converted this style into something like the iceducers which seem more ice fishing friendly. Or do I just have to put up the cash to buy the iceducer style? Or is the set up I have fine and I shouldn't waste the money?

I had the old puck style ducer and what a pain in the rear that thing was. I had to have a bubble gauge on the top of it to make sure it was pointed straight down. I spent the money for the ice ducer and am glad I did. I would highly recommend shelling out the money.
