Otter Lodge Modifications questions

KrashR

Question

So I just bought the floor model (last one) from Gander Mountain last night on sale and now I want to get some Mods\add-ons for it. First thing is I thought there was a guy on here selling the hyfax for the Otter sleds, does someone have his email or phone #. Also I plan to buy the hitch kit so I can tow it behind a snowmobile, the question is where do you guys get the swivel tow hitch for the snowmobiles? I saw one from Dennis Kirk that would fit on my Arctic Cat which has a round rear bar, but I would also like to get one for a 95 Polaris, but it has the rectangular grab bar in back and I haven't seen this style hitch to fit it? Then the last thing is what heater do you guys use for a fish house this size, the only heater I have currently is a Mr. Heater single burner cooker/heater, and that heated my Clam 5600 fine, but this ice house is much bigger. I would like to possible go with a new big buddy heater but after hearing the complaints I don't think I want to spend over $100 on something that doesn't work, does anyone have a used big buddy heater they would like to sell (working or not) for less than $100? Sorry for the long post, but I am pretty excited about this new house and can't wait to use it.

KrashR: I'm the guy with the hyfax kits. Drop me an e-mail at edjwendt at juno dot com with your phone# and we can go from there on the hyfax. I use a single burner Mr Heater to heat my Cabin. Seems to do a real good job but watch out for a slippery floor when it starts getting wet.

KrashR-

I would think the dealerships should be able to order up an OEM hitch for your different sleds. I would recommend something that bolts to the tunnel of the sled if you have a plastic or composite rear bumper like my cat does.

The heater/cooker works very well in a house this size. I lke it toasty warm so I rigged up a regular buddy heater off of my 20lb tank to sit behind the seats in the sled. I now have front & rear heat in the house.

I would steer clear of the Big Buddy. I believe Tom Herman even posted about an entire recall on the Big Buddy due to a faulty valve. The BB may be a great heater but for the price of the thing, it doesn't make sense to me. By the time you buy the heater and the proper hoses and tank, you are at half the price of an Empire direct vent furnace. It just doesn't make sense to me. $39 sunflower head and I'm in business.

It might be a little over kill, but I have a mr heater double burner. I have a wooden box that was built to house the burner, then you take it out and mount it on top of the box, run a hose to a 20lb tank and you are prepared for even the coldest days, one word of caution though, good ventilation is a must if you want to avoid co2 poisoning. I rarely have to light both burners in my lodge, but I have on occassion in -20 temps.
