GoodToGo
This year I have a camera, so for the first time I can watch the fish. So far I have seen many walleyes swim in look at the bait a while, then swim away. I have used shiners and fatheads, mostly with a split shot and bare red hook. I've tried jigging a spoon. The minnows sure look good down there, even trying to get away when the fish come in. What works for others to entice a strike?
Deitz Dittrich
You may be in a situation where the walleye really aren't in a feeding mood. But a few things I would try are this.•Try raising the bait very slowly. See if the fish will follow it up, once you take the fish out of its confort zone it must either eat the lure or go bak to the bottom where its confortable.•Take the lure and drop it down the to the bottom and let it sit right on the bottom, then slowly start pulling it up and then drop it back to the bottom.• Pull the lure away from the fish and up about 10 feet.. then slowly drop the lure and pause it a few times... many times this will excite the fish!Best of luck.. if you find something that works.. please let us know! upnorth
I don't have a camera, but you can kinda tell what is happening with the vexilar. If I see a fish come in and it doesn't hit I will speed up my jigging but use shorter strokes, if that don't work I will lift the jig up about 2 or 3 feet and then drop it back down and let it smack the bottom. If that don't work I will just let it sit there for a minute or two. We were out yesterday and they wouldn't touch a minnow on a bobber and they weren't having anything to do with a jigging spoon and a minnow head(my fav) I found out by accident(had to relieve a couple of cups of coffee) that if I left the jigging spoon with the minnow head sit it would eventually take that. Change the jig and the minnow on a bobber to a jig and minnow head on a bobber and started to hit some fish. Rather un-orthodox but hey you can't argue with success eh
