Northstar Lantern

Northstar lantern for portable wondering if I should exchange it before it's to late and I use it. Christmas Gift for my portable. Read a couple post of problems with this lantern or has everyone been having problems with the Northstar for there portable.

If it was me I would return it and get the one that runs on 1 pound tanks and lights itself when you turn the knob. Dual mantle. No messing with liquid in the cold and start dependably. My 2 cents.

This does run off a 1 lb tank and elec start when you turn the knob. Has a single mantle which ties top and bottom.

I've had a north star for 4 or 5 years now that is used for camping. I like how bright it is but always have an "explosion" upon lighting it. once it is lit it works fine though.

Same here,4 or 5 years and the only problem I've had, has been broken mantles, ALWAYS carry a spare set or better yet, TWO. Other than that its' been a great accessory!

I've got the northstar with the single tube mantle. I think this tube mantle is more durable, and like the light it puts out. I have the soft case for it, and just slide it into a 5 gal bucket. No broken globes yet (I hope I didn't just jinx myself).
