Fact or Fiction Jiffy spray less water and ice?

Let’s get some opinions on if a jiffy will keep you dryer because of the way the blade spins backwards to all others or you could say the correct way. I would say yes this is true. What do you think?

Jiffy's spin alot faster than a Strikemaster so they tend to throw water and ice up to a persons knees!I have watched many a Jiffy owner (after alot of pulling and warm-up time)LOL drill holes and see the ice get thrown all over there pant legs!Just my observation grin.gif

The direction that they spin is backwards/counter clock-wise, true. But the fluting on the auger shaft is also backwards so it is still bringing the ice chips and water up and away from the hole. This is the only way a auger, or drill bit for that matter, will work. It is no different than a left-handed drill bit they work the same just need to be spun opposite directions.

So I would have to say no a Jiffy will not keep you drier in fact as pointed out above they spin faster so it is possible that you will get wetter. I'm not saying that jiffy's are bad (I almost bought one once and my next auger just might be one) but the direction of rotation has nothing to do with how wet you will get.

Here are a few facts to digest on augers. Jiffy is geared at 12 to 1, and Strikemaster is 24 to 1. Jiffy is twice as fast on blade rotation because they use the same engine, hence the same RPM. Direction doesn't make a difference, but the plate on the bottom does bring a lot of water up when you pull it out. The Jiffy drilled hole is usually virtually ice free because of this.

My .02 If you can come back in 26 years and still have your strickmaster then you got a good machine.Im going on

my 26 yr with my jiffy 3hp with a 8" blade converted to 10'

(Cut to many holes with the 8') Now I would say that is a good MAAchine.
